Rules & Regulations

Sneads Ferry King Mackerel Tournament – Official Rules & Terms

  1. Eligible Fish: King Mackerel of 30″ fork length or greater are considered eligible fish. Two fish may be weighed in by each boat. The heaviest fish will be used to determine the boat’s placement regarding primary prizes and big fish secondary prizes. The second fish will be used as the aggregate fish for those boats entered in the Aggregate TWT or One Place 50/50 Aggregate TWT (two fish must be weighed to qualify for aggregate money). Only one primary prize can be won by each boat. Boats may win more than one secondary prize. Participants must declare Junior, Lady and Senior Anglers before close of registration to be eligible for these prizes. In the event of a tie, the fish weighed in first will be the winner. Tournament rules below apply to the Dolphin and King Mackerel Divisions.

  2. Tournament Within A Tournament (TWT): This TWT pays three places for the largest King Mackerel among the boats registered for this TWT.

  3. High Roller TWT: Pays three places for the largest King Mackerel among registered boats.

  4. Dolphin Division: Pays three places for the largest Dolphin among registered boats. One Dolphin may be entered per boat.

  5. Small Boat TWT: Open to boats with LOA of 26′ 6″ or less. Heaviest King Mackerel wins.

  6. Single Engine TWT: Pays three places for the largest King Mackerel among boats with only one motor.

  7. Winner Take All TWT: Pays one place for the largest King Mackerel.

  8. Two Fish Aggregate TWT: Two King Mackerel must be weighed. Pays three places for heaviest aggregate weight.

  9. One Place 50/50 Aggregate TWT: Two King Mackerel must be weighed. Pays three places. 50% of entry fees go to the Rotary Club of Sneads Ferry One Place Endowment; 1st = 50%, 2nd = 30%, 3rd = 20%.

  10. Fish must be weighed in from the boat in which they were caught and on the same day. Overland transport is not permitted.

  11. No lines in the water before 7 AM on the declared fishing day.

  12. Fish may be disqualified if their condition suggests impairment or unfitness for consumption, or if foreign objects are found.

  13. All fish must be caught on rod and reel.

  14. Boats should carry VHF radios (Channel 68). Officials can be reached at 252-647-6341.

  15. All weighed fish become property of the Rotary Club of Sneads Ferry. A signed weight receipt is final.

  16. Rules Committee and Weigh Master may refuse any fish. Final decisions rest with the Rules Committee.

  17. Captain’s Choice Format: Fish one of two days (Aug 16 or 17, 2025). If both days are canceled due to weather, 95% of fees will be refunded. Captain and crew safety is their own responsibility.

  18. Captains must declare their fishing day by 8 PM, Friday, Aug 15. Only one registration per boat and captain.

  19. Weigh station is at Pelagic Hunter Fishing Center. Scales open at 2 PM on both days.

  20. Boats must check in by 5 PM with assigned number at Tournament Committee boats.

  21. No fish passing between boats. Exceptions only for bona fide emergencies reported via Channel 68 or 252-647-6341.

  22. No one may leave a registered boat except for emergencies or logistical necessity as described above.

  23. No official check-out. Tournament hours: 7 AM – 5 PM, Aug 16–17, 2025.

  24. Fishing boundaries require departing and returning through a NC inlet.

  25. Registration fees are non-refundable. Additional TWTs can be added before registration closes.

  26. Prize recipients must be present at Awards Ceremony with valid ID.

  27. Sponsors and officials may compete and win prizes.

  28. Rules Committee reserves right to accept or reject applications.

  29. Registration confirms understanding and agreement to all rules and decisions.

  30. Protests must be submitted in writing with $500 cash fee before 6 PM on fishing day. Fee returned if protest upheld.

  31. Winning anglers may be required to take polygraph tests. Failure to pass or take test can forfeit winnings.

  32. Rules Committee decisions are final. Tournament reserves right to amend rules as needed.

  33. All federal and state boating/fishing laws must be followed, including licenses.

  34. No boat changes after 8 PM, Aug 15, 2025, unless approved by Rules Committee.

  35. Junior, Lady, and Senior Anglers must be declared on entry and be on board to qualify.

  36. All fish to be weighed must be escorted by a SFKMT representative.

  37. Weigh-in updates will be posted on the Sneads Ferry Rotary KMT Facebook page.
